Join thousands of New Yorkers in caring for and celebrating New York City parks on It's My Park! Day. Participate in clean up and planting projects, enjoy free events or just get outside to enjoy your park! Supplies are provided for all projects.
Here are a few highlighted projects and events out of the over 150 projects and events happening on the day. Check back soon for more details on these and other projects and events throughout the city.
Bronx
Williamsbridge Oval, 10am to 4pm
Volunteer with the Moshulu Preservation Corporation to plant bulbs, paint benches and flag poles, and beautify the park. Fun activities and games for youth and an afternoon BBQ for all volunteers, organized by staff from the Williamsbridge Oval Recreation Center.
Location: Reservoir Place and Bainbridge Ave. Meet at the recreation center.
Hunts Point Recreation Center, 12am to 3pm
Volunteers needed to spread woodchips, plant bulbs, paint, and weed flower beds. Family friendly activities, including storytelling and art & crafts, as well as an information table to learn more about the park.
Location: Manida Street between Spofford Ave and Lafayette Street.
Brooklyn
Shore Road Park, 9am to 12pm
Join volunteers from the Shore Road Garden Council, US Army, Fort Hamilton High School ROTC, Fontbonne Hall Academy, Boy Scouts of America, and local residents for a morning of beautifying Shore Road Park. Activities include planting bulbs, weeding garden areas and tree pits, clearing wooded areas, spreading wood chips, and painting.
Location: Gazebo at 90th Street and Shore Road.
Kaiser Park, 12pm to 4pm
Volunteers needed to beautify the park and paint lamp posts. Also, join the Friends of Kaiser for fun, family activities, including painting pumpkins and making bird feeders.
Location: West 31st Street and Neptune Ave.
Manhattan
Sara D. Roosevelt Park, 11am to 3pm
Hosted by the Sara D. Roosevelt Park Coalition, It’s My Park! Day will celebrate the launch of the People Make Parks Project (a joint initiative of Partnerships for Parks and Hester Street Collaborative) to engage community in park design. An exhibition will introduce People Make Parks and report back on plans that community members have helped to shape for their local parks, including Sara D. Roosevelt Park and the Allen & Pike Street Malls. Come share your vision for SDR Park by marking a map with your ideas! Other activities will include a street tree care workshop, bulb planting, a health fair hosted by University Settlement, a bike polo demonstration, garbage can painting, and Park Stories, offered in collaboration with the Oral History Project of the Parks Library, which will give you the opportunity to record your story about SDR Park.
Location: Rivington Street Walkway (Rivington Street between Chrystie and Forsyth Streets).
East 75th/76th Street Trees, 10am to 1pm
Volunteer with East 75/76 Street Trees and Robert Wagner Middle School to plant annuals in 23 tree pits, clean up the pits, and care for the street trees. This event will also feature student presentations on history and environmental topics, as well as a bake sale fundraiser.
Location: East 75th and 76th Streets between 2nd and 3rd Avenues.
Morningside Park, 11am to 3pm
Join the Friends of Morningside Park for a memorial bench dedication and daffodil bulb planting in the morning. Once all the bulbs are planted, make a day of it with an early Halloween celebration, featuring face-painting, arts and crafts, and a costume parade through the park.
Also, join the members of Morningside BARC from 9am – 12pm to spread freshly cut wood chips in the dog run, as well as sweep and clean the path leading down to the run.
Location: 116th Street Playground (at Morningside Avenue); BARC will meet at W. 114th Street, between Morningside Ave and Morningside Drive.
Highbridge Park, 10am to 2:15pm
Help the Friends of Highbridge Park, the Highbridge Coalition, the Highbridge Canine Club, and NY Cares to beautify the park -- plant native species and daffodil bulbs, as well as clean-up throughout the park. At 12pm, come celebrate the 160th Birthday of the High Bridge, featuring free food and the singing of the Croton Ode by Highbridge Voices at the Water Tower (enter at 174th Street and Amsterdam).
Location: Meet at the Highbridge Recreation Center, 173rd Street and Amsterdam Avenue; volunteer projects located throughout the park.
Queens
Rainey Park, 11am to 3pm
Join Green Shores NYC for community service projects and youth activities on It's My Park! Day. Volunteers needed to beautify the surrounding playground, plant trees (as part of the MillionTreesNYC initiative), and clean the shoreline. Also, discover the newly opened playground (inspired by the neighboring Naguchi Museum); participate in SPARK (Sports, Play, Active Recreation for Kids); enjoy face painting (sponsored by NYC Parks & Recreation); show your creativity by designing a cover for Environmental Activity Books to raise youth awareness on environmental issues (sponsored by Children for Children); or simply bring a picnic lunch and enjoy a free beverage, donated by Snapple.
Location: 34th Ave and Vernon Blvd.
Staten Island
Tappan Park, 12pm to 3pm
Come out to enjoy the Family Fall Festival at Tappan Park, featuring a free show and workshop by City Parks Foundation's PuppetMobile at 1PM! Cromwell Recreation will offer pumpkin painting, face painting, a costume parade, and fun activities for the entire family. Bring your own lunch and beverages to picnic in the park.
Location: 1150 Clove Road.
